Terms of service

Last updated: August 2026

These terms cover your use of Home School Anchor ("Anchor"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Anchor. They work alongside our privacy policy.

What Anchor is — and isn't

Anchor is a record-keeping tool. It helps you track curriculum, attendance, grades, reading, and compliance checkpoints, and it generates documents like transcripts and portfolio reports from what you enter.

Anchor is not a school, and it does not provide legal advice. Our state guides, compliance checklists, and AI answers are general information to help you orient yourself — they are not a substitute for reading your state's law or talking to a qualified advisor. Homeschool requirements vary by state and change over time. You remain responsible for meeting your own state's requirements, for the accuracy of the records you keep, and for submitting anything your state asks for. Using Anchor does not by itself satisfy any legal obligation.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or older and legally able to enter this agreement.
  • You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for everything done through your account.
  • You're responsible for the accuracy of what you enter.
  • If you invite another parent or guardian to your account, they can see and change your family's records. Invite carefully.

Student logins and children

You may give a student their own login. If you do, you are consenting on that child's behalf and remain the account owner. You control what each student can do through per-student permissions, and you can revoke a student's access at any time. Students can only ever see their own records — never a sibling's.

Plans, trials, and billing

  • The Free plan includes one student and is available without a card.
  • Paid plans (Family, Microschool) start with a 7-day trial that does not require a card. If you don't subscribe by the end of the trial, the account moves to the Free plan — your records are not deleted, but paid features stop working and you won't be able to add more students.
  • Subscriptions are billed in advance through our payment processor and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for.
  • We'll give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change.

Refunds. If Anchor isn't right for you, email us within 30 days of a charge and we'll refund it — no questions asked. After 30 days, cancelling stops future billing and you keep access through the period you've already paid for. If you're on an annual plan and something has gone wrong, contact us and we'll work it out.

Microschool tuition payments between operators and families are handled by our payment processor. Anchor provides the invoicing and payment tooling but is not a party to the agreement between a microschool and an enrolled family, and is not responsible for tuition disputes, refunds, or the services a microschool provides.

The Free plan

The Free plan is provided as-is and at our discretion. We may change what it includes, or discontinue it, with at least 30 days' notice by email. Paid subscriptions are honored through the period you've paid for.

How long we keep your records

We don't keep records indefinitely for accounts that aren't in use. If an account is not on a paid plan and goes unused for 120 days, we may deactivate it, and we may permanently delete the account and its records at any time after that. Signing in resets the clock, and accounts with an active paid subscription are not subject to it at all.

We are not required to notify you before deactivating or deleting an account. If your account has been deactivated and you'd like it back, contact us; if the data hasn't been purged yet, we may be able to restore it.

Keep your own copies of anything you may need later. Many states require families to retain homeschool records for years after the fact — that obligation is yours, not ours, and Anchor should not be your only copy. You can export your records at any time while your account is active.

Your data

Your records are yours. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service — to store, process, back up, and display your data to you and to anyone you've shared it with (a co-parent, a student, or a microschool you've enrolled with). We don't sell your data and we don't train AI models on it. See the privacy policy for the details.

AI features

Some features use AI: photo descriptions, weekly summaries, compliance answers, and the planning assistant. AI output can be wrong. Review anything AI-generated before relying on it, especially in records you'll submit to your state. The planning assistant will always show you a preview of any change and wait for you to confirm it — nothing is changed on your behalf without that confirmation. AI answers about state requirements are general information, not legal advice.

Acceptable use

Don't use Anchor to:

  • break the law, or infringe someone else's rights;
  • upload content you don't have the right to upload;
  • attempt to access another family's or microschool's data;
  • probe, scrape, overload, or reverse-engineer the service;
  • resell or white-label Anchor without our written agreement.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Anchor running and to keep your data safe, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. We may add, change, or remove features. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid plan includes, we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email.

Ending your account

You can cancel or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that violates these terms or that we're required to close by law — in all but urgent cases we'll tell you first and give you a chance to export your records.

Disclaimers and liability

Anchor is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including lost records where you had the ability to export them, or for any consequence of a state authority rejecting records you submitted.

Changes to these terms

We'll email all active users at least 30 days before any material change to these terms. Continuing to use Anchor after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you and we each consent to those courts. Nothing here removes a right you have under the consumer-protection law of the state where you live.
